South Hawai'i Symphony Holiday Concert

Celebrate the magic of the season with the South Hawaii Symphony in a spectacular afternoon of beloved holiday treasures and exciting world premieres! Music Director Farley Sangels conducts an enchanting first half featuring TWO world premiere arrangementsβhis breathtaking new setting of "Silent Night" with beloved Ocean View vocalist Ola Sangels and virtuoso pianist Jason Sherbundy, plus his dazzling trumpet arrangement of "The Christmas Waltz" which he'll perform himself! Experience Tchaikovsky's glittering Nutcracker selections including "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," the joyful Ukrainian "Bell Carol" , Benjamin Hanby's cheerful "Up On The Housetop, " and John Williams' magical five-movement suite from Home Alone featuring "Somewhere in My Memory" . Local aloha spirit shines when the talented Ocean View Ukulele Choir joins for Alex Anderson's island classic "Mele Kalikimaka". After intermission, dynamic guest conductor Jason Sherbundy leads the orchestra through irresistible jazzy favorites: the samba-infused "Brazilian Sleigh Bells" , Percy Faith's swinging arrangements, the elegant "Let It Snow", Irving Berlin's timeless "White Christmas", and a jubilant "Jazzy Christmas" medley. The outstanding Kona Coast Saxophone Quartet performs two stunning chamber works. After the concert join us for a community social event with holiday refreshments and cookies. This concert is free and open to the public, and donations are gratefully accepted. Bring the whole family!
